Vietnam's Top Leader's US Visit Injects New Momentum into Bilateral Ties

Vietnamese Ambassador to the United States Nguyen Quoc Dzung spoke with The World and Vietnam Report on the significance of the working visit by General Secretary and President To Lam, highlighting its role in injecting fresh momentum into bilateral ties. Ambassador Dzung emphasized that the visit will further solidify and advance the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and the US in a practical, results-driven manner. The agenda includes high-level meetings with US administration and congressional leaders, working sessions with prominent US enterprises, institutional investors, and leading technology conglomerates, as well as engagement with overseas Vietnamese intellectuals and American friends. A particular focus will be placed on accelerating cooperation in searching for and identifying Vietnamese fallen soldiers, addressing war legacy issues. This underscores Vietnam's commitment to resolving historical challenges while fostering future collaboration. Looking ahead, Ambassador Dzung noted that while the existing pillars of cooperation—spanning politics, diplomacy, defense, security, trade, investment, science, technology, education, and people-to-people exchanges—will remain foundational, future efforts will increasingly target areas prioritized by Vietnam for its next development phase. These include sectors where the US possesses distinct comparative strengths and mutual interests in fostering sustainable development. Key areas of focus include high technology, clean energy, and resilient supply chains. In advanced technologies, both nations can deepen partnerships in semiconductors, artificial intelligence (AI), data centers, advanced digital services, and high-tech human resource development. This aligns directly with Vietnam’s national roadmap to elevate the digital economy to 30% of GDP by 2030. For clean energy, Vietnam's need to significantly expand power generation capacity to maintain economic growth and meet its Net Zero emissions target by 2050 presents vast opportunities for US firms. These opportunities lie in providing capital, cutting-edge technology, and technical expertise across renewable energy, liquefied natural gas (LNG), power transmission grids, energy storage systems, and energy efficiency solutions. Furthermore, collaboration to build diversified, resilient supply chains is envisioned through expanding trade in advanced tech products, streamlining logistics, and strengthening joint ventures between US investors and Vietnamese enterprises. These areas represent converging interests that generate long-term strategic value.
