Drunk Driver Arrested in Chiang Mai After Fatal Hit-and-Run Kills 11-Year-Old Boy

A tragic hit-and-run accident in Chiang Mai ended in heartbreak last night after a young child died from his injuries. Police officers quickly tracked down the suspect using local surveillance cameras. The accident happened around 7:30 PM on July 23 in front of Phetmanee Village in the Pa Daet subdistrict. A gray pickup truck struck an 11-year-old boy on the road and immediately sped away from the scene without stopping to help. Local bystanders rushed to help the injured child right after the collision occurred. A good citizen transported the young boy to nearby Chiang Mai Hospital for urgent medical care. Despite the best efforts of the medical staff, the young boy passed away around 10:00 PM that evening. Authorities later transferred his body to Maharaj Nakhon Chiang Mai Hospital for a detailed autopsy examination. Following the crash, Pol. Col. Prachaya Tisala ordered a full-scale manhunt for the missing driver. Detectives from Chiang Mai City Police Station joined forces with local prevention officers to analyze street security cameras. Investigators traced the escape route taken by the fleeing vehicle across the subdistrict. Their hard work paid off when they identified a suspicious gray Toyota Revo pickup truck parked at a local dormitory. Officers inspected the vehicle and uncovered physical damage on its left front side. The truck had a dented hood, a cracked bumper, and a missing front logo that matched evidence gathered at the crash site. Soon after, an elderly man named Mr. Jor arrived to claim ownership of the pickup truck. When officers confronted him with security camera video, he admitted to driving the truck during the fatal accident. Police tested Mr. Jor for alcohol following his confession at the scene. His blood alcohol content measured 176 milligrams per liter, which vastly exceeds Thailand’s strict legal limit. Authorities immediately took the suspect into custody alongside the damaged pickup truck. He now faces multiple severe felony charges at Chiang Mai City Police Station. The charges include reckless driving under the influence of alcohol causing death and leaving the scene of an accident. Investigating officers are continuing legal proceedings as the local community mourns the young victim’s death.
