The White House has responded to a letter urging greater American engagement in resolving the Cambodia-Thailand border dispute, stating its focus on domestic and foreign policy priorities. WASHINGTON, July 28, 2026 (KPT) – The White House has replied to a letter from Leewood Phu, a 2017 candidate for US ambassador to Thailand, who urged greater American engagement in resolving the Cambodia-Thailand border dispute. In its response, the administration highlighted domestic and foreign policy priorities, saying it was focused on advancing an agenda centered on “prosperity, peace, safety and success.” “We are in the midst of the most extraordinary period of political reform in the history of our country,” the statement said, adding that commitments to the American people would remain the focus. The reply outlined priorities including border security, crime reduction, economic growth, energy production and what it described as restoring US strength globally. “With resolve, we will continue to build on this extraordinary momentum,” it said. “We will rescue the American Dream. Above all, we will make our country safer, stronger and greater than ever before.” The letter did not specifically address the Cambodia-Thailand border issue raised by Phu. Earlier this month, he forwarded a Cambodian government statement to the US Secretary of State, alleging Thai military actions amounted to invasion and occupation of Cambodian territory. He cited the Franco-Siamese Treaty of 1907 as a key legal document establishing internationally recognized boundaries. Phu called on Washington to encourage peaceful resolution in line with international law and to support mechanisms upholding agreements and regional stability.
