Vietnam's Central Lung Hospital Boosts Medical Cooperation with Japanese Thoracic Surgery Experts

Within the framework of cooperation between the Vietnam Respiratory Society and the Japanese Association of Thoracic Surgery, the Central Lung Hospital has worked with Professor Shinya Tane, a thoracic surgery expert from Kobe University Hospital. The exchange focused on experiences in lung cancer treatment, modern surgical techniques, and lung transplantation. This collaboration is seen as a move to enhance advanced medical care in Vietnam, particularly in the field of pulmonary diseases. In recent years, the Central Lung Hospital has made significant progress in lung transplantation techniques. The successful lung transplant of a 59-year-old man using a lung from a 22-year-old female donor indicates that the country's medical standards are approaching those of leading nations in the region. The hospital, with a 69-year history of tuberculosis control, aims to "master" lung transplantation technology. Having performed 13 lung transplants, it harbors aspirations to become a leading lung transplant center in Southeast Asia. Robot-assisted surgery is also entering a phase of intensive development, and Vietnam's techniques in organ and tissue transplantation are nearing the level of advanced countries in the region. This engagement with Japanese experts underscores the importance of international cooperation in Vietnam's healthcare sector.
