Vietnam Enhances Mid-Autumn Festival Support for Children, Bringing Light to Disadvantaged Families

In Vietnam, there is a growing movement to strengthen support for children from disadvantaged backgrounds during the traditional Mid-Autumn Festival (Tet Trung Thu). The Hanoi Federation of Labor plans to organize three "Joyful Mid-Autumn Festival" programs in 2026. These initiatives target union members, workers, civil servants, and especially children facing difficult circumstances, aiming to provide opportunities for everyone to celebrate the traditional festival together. At the government level, consideration for children is also emphasized. Deputy Prime Minister Pham Thi Thanh Tra visited Tuyen Quang province to present gifts to children. Similarly, Standing Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Do Van Chien conducted comforting and visiting activities in the same province. Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan also handed over Mid-Autumn Festival gifts to sick and disabled children in Tuyen Quang province. These visits by high-ranking officials demonstrate the government's commitment to prioritizing the welfare of children and supporting those in need. Under Vietnam's one-party system, social welfare policies are considered a crucial agenda item for the government. While economic growth continues, addressing income and regional disparities, and supporting the vulnerable are deemed essential for sustainable development. Traditional festivals like the Mid-Autumn Festival play a significant role not only in deepening family bonds but also in fostering social solidarity. This enhanced support for children reflects Vietnam's emphasis on social inclusivity alongside economic development. Especially amidst complex relations with China, maintaining domestic social stability and national unity remains a critical challenge for the Vietnamese government. Providing warm support to children in difficult situations is considered beneficial for long-term national strength, from the perspective of nurturing the next generation.
