(CJ) Lwan Moe (July 15) Mizzima. Around 1,000 displaced residents in the Taung Twin region of Minkin Township, Sagaing Region, are facing difficulties with food and shelter as their displacement continues, it has been learned. The military junta's troops launched an offensive starting on June 23 to control the Monywa-Yargyi-Kalay road, forcing local residents to flee. Currently, the displacement has lasted for over 20 days. "As the displacement period gets longer, we face difficulties with food and shelter. Since it is the rainy season, we need tarpaulins for shelter. We are worried that young children might contract dengue fever. We also lack healthcare services," a male resident of the Taung Twin region told Mizzima. The military junta's troops, with a large number of forces from the Northwest Military Command (N.W.M.C), advanced through Yinmarbin and Kannee townships and continued their offensive towards the Minkin region to control the Monywa-Yargyi-Kalay road. It has been learned that the military junta's troops set fire to and destroyed about 150 houses in the villages of Htone Gyi, Letpan Taw, Kyauk Maw, Kon Maw, and Seik Thar in the Taung Twin region of Minkin Township, and also beheaded and killed a 40-year-old man. "When we risked returning to our village, only the monastery remained. Even the school was burned to ashes. We have no houses to return to. We are still afraid of the Pyu Saw Htee (militia) when we think about returning to live there," said a local CDM teacher. It has been learned from the Minkin Township resistance forces that nine clashes occurred between the military junta's column and local resistance forces, resulting in the deaths of dozens of soldiers from the military junta's side, including officers. The Taung Twin region is located about 16 miles west of Minkin town. Editor: Aung Kyaw Phyo
