"Based on our defense cooperation agreement, the SAF and TNI are exploring the development of training facilities in Baturaja, West Kalimantan, and the Siabu Air Weapons Range," PM Wong stated during a joint press conference with President Prabowo at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Monday, July 6, 2026. "This initiative will provide cooperation opportunities that will be even more mutually beneficial for us to train together and enhance our defense relations," he added. Moving forward in the energy sector, PM Wong assessed that Indonesia possesses significant potential in the development of new and renewable energy. He indicated that Singapore is ready to be a strategic partner in harnessing this potential, including through the development of one of the largest solar projects in Morowali, Central Sulawesi. "Today, we have also signed the MoUs between Danantara and Keppel Electric, Sembcorp Industries, and Singapore Energy Interconnections. This will provide a clear roadmap for negotiations and discussions between the parties developing the path for these electricity projects," he said. In addition to energy cooperation, PM Wong emphasized the importance of deepening people-to-people relations as the foundation of bilateral Indonesia-Singapore relations. He welcomed the launch of the Garuda School Program and various student exchange programs, which are seen as further strengthening ties between the two countries. "Our universities welcomed students from SMA Taruna Nusantara in Central Java in April this year, and they are planning to make a return visit next month. Programs like these build friendship and understanding between our peoples," he remarked. Furthermore, PM Wong expressed optimism about improved connectivity between the two countries with the opening of new flight routes from Singapore to several regions in Indonesia. "We hope to see more flight connections to parts of Indonesia that will allow tourists to experience the beauty of Indonesia, support business travel, and facilitate more interactions between our peoples," he concluded.
