Cambodia's Information Minister Receives Medicine Donation for Flood Victims
Cambodia's Minister of Information, Net Pheaktra, received a donation of medicines from the Association of Cambodian Medical Innovation Students to aid residents affected by Mekong River floods in Kratie province. The support embodies the spirit of 'Khmer helping Khmer'.
Phnom Penh, September 1, 2026 – His Excellency Net Pheaktra, Minister of Information, received a donation of medicines from the Association of Cambodian Medical Innovation Students at the Ministry's headquarters today. These medicines are intended to aid residents in Kratie province who have been affected by Mekong River floods. During the handover ceremony, His Excellency Dr. Sao Sambath, Advisor to the Ministry of Information and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Association of Cambodian Medical Innovation Students, presented the donation. Dr. Sambath stated that although the association was recently established, its leaders and members collectively contributed funds to purchase the medicines for this humanitarian effort. The donated medicines include Bromhexine 8mg (10 boxes), Bitrim 480mg (20 boxes), Anti-Cold (20 boxes), Paracetamol 500mg (4 boxes), and Vit Trivit (B1, B6, B12) (100 boxes). Minister Net Pheaktra expressed his profound gratitude to the Association of Cambodian Medical Innovation Students for their valuable contribution. He emphasized that this benevolent gesture reflects the association's noble spirit, care, and high level of participation in charitable and social work through the Ministry of Information. The Minister further stated that this donation is a significant contribution in the spirit of 'Khmer helping Khmer,' collectively alleviating the hardships of the affected population and demonstrating solidarity and a culture of sharing within Cambodian society. His Excellency Net Pheaktra also briefed attendees on the flood situation in Kratie province, detailing the damage to property, homes, and hectares of crops, as well as loss of life due to drowning. He noted that Kratie province is experiencing both Mekong River flooding and heavy rainfall, causing significant difficulties for residents in certain areas. As the head of the government working group for Kratie province, His Excellency Net Pheaktra urged citizens to exercise extreme caution, particularly in supervising children to prevent drowning accidents. He also instructed local authorities to continue disseminating information and educating the public about flood risks, preventive measures, and health issues that may arise during and after floods. Furthermore, the Minister advised farmers in Kratie province to shift from traditional farming practices to adopting modern agricultural techniques, monitoring weather forecasts, and diversifying crops to reduce risks and losses caused by floods and climate change.
