Two Jakarta Sub-districts Face Drought Amid Prolonged Dry Season

Governor of DKI Jakarta, Pramono Anung, revealed that two sub-districts in the capital are already experiencing drought due to the prolonged dry season. This was announced during the "Jaga Jakarta" (Guard Jakarta) assembly concerning preparedness for the dry season, held on Wednesday (2/9). "As you can see, today there are two sub-districts that are indeed experiencing drought, namely in Kalibaru and Semper sub-districts," said Pramono. Kalibaru and Semper sub-districts are located in the Cilincing District, North Jakarta City. To address the drought, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is collaborating with the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) and other relevant agencies to provide water tanks. A total of 29 water trucks from 10 participating agencies have been prepared to tackle the issue of water scarcity in Jakarta. Furthermore, BPBD and PAM Jaya have established communication channels to receive reports from residents affected by the drought. "We are socializing this to the mayors, sub-district heads, and village heads so that if the community finds a drought incident, they immediately report it to 112, and we will facilitate with PAM Jaya for clean water distribution," stated Marulitua Sijabat, Head of the DKI Jakarta BPBD. Previously, the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicted that the peak of the dry season would occur between August and September 2026. However, the El Niño phenomenon itself is expected to continue until early 2027.
