The suspect in the case of a 5-year-old KG class student who was raped and murdered before her earrings were stolen in Thanatpin Township, Yangon Region, was shot dead by police forces while attempting to flee during an evidence search, according to police sources. The incident occurred around 9 a.m. on July 3, when Ma Thaw Tar Sai, 5, residing in Thoo Chaung village, Thanatpin Township, disappeared while her grandmother was preparing her for school. Family members and villagers searched for her and discovered the child's body, wrapped in a blanket and abandoned near Kan Myint Road in the village, around 9 p.m. that day. The child's body was transported to Hlaing Thar Yar People's Hospital for examination, which revealed signs of sexual assault, as well as bruises on her chest. Her earrings had been forcibly removed, leaving her earlobes nearly torn. "Before we arrested this man, we brought his wife to the Thoo Chaung administrative office for questioning and asked her to reveal her husband's whereabouts. She replied that she would tell us for one million kyats," a local resident told the Ayeyarwaddy Times. The police force under the military-appointed government arrested Ye Win Paing (alias: Kyay Gyi, Ye Gyi, Paing Lay, 33), the perpetrator of the murder and rape, on July 6, in front of the General Administration Department office on Bo Gyoke Road, Nattawlin Township, Bago Region, after questioning him due to suspicious behavior. After his arrest, on July 7, the suspect was taken to show where he had hidden the clothes he wore during the crime, which were concealed in the woods along the road leading to Min Htet Min Jetty in Thapyay Chaung village, Thanatpin Township, to be collected as evidence. While searching, the suspect Ye Win Paing pushed away a police officer providing security and attempted to flee. The police force then fired a warning shot with an MA-13 rifle to apprehend him, resulting in his death, according to a police statement. Currently, the body of the deceased suspect Ye Win Paing has been sent to Hlaing Thar Yar People's Hospital, and a case has been opened at the Thayet Nyaung Township Police Station under the case number (1/2026) for unnatural death, and further proceedings are being carried out according to procedure.
