Thailand Promotes Double-Track Railway Project in Sisaket, Aiming to Boost Southern Isan Economy

Thailand's Ministry of Transport announced that Deputy Minister Chayapol Siripong visited Sisaket province to confirm the progress of the "Chira–Ubon Ratchathani" double-track railway project. This project aims to improve railway transport capacity and strengthen the logistics network in Sisaket and Ubon Ratchathani provinces, located in the southern part of Thailand's northeastern region (Isan). It is expected to significantly contribute to the efficiency of cross-border logistics and the revitalization of the regional economy. The target opening year is 2032 (B.E. 2575), and the government plans to accelerate investment in infrastructure development to achieve this goal. The double-tracking of the railway will not only increase cargo transport capacity but also enhance the convenience of passenger transport. This is expected to facilitate inter-regional travel, attract tourists, and improve the quality of life for local residents. The southern Isan region is one of the less developed areas within Thailand, and this railway project could be a crucial step towards reducing economic disparities in the region.
