Driver Injured After Falling Asleep, Flipping Car on South Pattaya Road

PATTAYA, Thailand – A driver was injured after reportedly falling asleep at the wheel and crashing into a parked car, causing her vehicle to overturn in the middle of South Pattaya Road on September 20. Pattaya municipal patrol officers from Unit 202 and the Special Affairs Division responded to the accident near Shell 20 on South Pattaya Road. A white Mazda 2 reportedly lost control and slammed into the rear of a yellow Toyota sedan parked along the roadside. The impact caused the Mazda to overturn and come to rest upside down in the middle of the road, with both vehicles sustaining significant damage. The driver of the Mazda was injured in the crash. She reportedly told officials that she had briefly lost consciousness after falling asleep at the wheel due to accumulated fatigue. Officials coordinated with the Pattaya City Police Station tow truck to remove the damaged vehicles from the roadway and restore traffic flow. The incident prompted a reminder to motorists not to continue driving when tired or sleepy and to stop and rest before fatigue affects their ability to control a vehicle.
