Cambodia Firmly Rejects Border Changes by Force, Meets US Embassy Chargé d'Affaires

Phnom Penh – On the morning of August 4, 2026, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister in Charge of the Office of the Prime Minister, Vongsey Vissoth, held a working meeting with Aleksandra Zittle, Chargé d'Affaires of the U.S. Embassy to the Kingdom of Cambodia, at the Prime Minister's Office. To begin, Deputy Prime Minister Vongsey Vissoth extended a warm welcome and congratulations to Ms. Aleksandra Zittle on her second diplomatic mission in Cambodia. He also congratulated her on the successful organization of the 250th anniversary of the U.S. National Independence Day on July 1st. Deputy Prime Minister Vongsey Vissoth further stated that based on America's experience 250 years ago, building a strong nation cannot rely solely on historical and cultural factors but must also be based on certain shared values. He cited Singapore as an example, noting that despite being a small country with no shared history or culture, it relied on the sharing of common values, starting from small groups, which then became shared values and a solid, unified force within the entire society. Cambodia, with over 2,000 years of history, can also learn from this lesson in its nation-building process to achieve its 2050 vision and build a strong Cambodia for the next 100 years.
