Cambodian Senate Refers 4 Draft Laws to Specialized Committees for Review

The Cambodian Senate has decided to refer four draft laws to its specialized committees for review before they are submitted for plenary sessions of the Senate in the near future. This decision was made during a meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on the morning of September 25, 2026, under the chairmanship of Mr. Uch Borith, Acting President of the Senate. According to the Senate, after examination and discussion, the Senate Standing Committee has assigned the task of reviewing three draft laws to the Committee on Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Information, in collaboration with the Committee on Legislation and Justice. 1. The draft law on the approval of the Protocol to Amend the Charter of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). 2. The draft law on the approval of the Convention on the Rights and Privileges of the Secretariat, Personnel, and Representatives of the Member States of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA). 3. The draft law on the approval of the Agreement between the Kingdom of Cambodia and the Russian Federation on mutual protection of citizens in the field of international criminal justice. Meanwhile, another draft law concerning amendments to the Law on the Status of Lawyers has been assigned to the Committee on Legislation and Justice for review. Prior to their submission to the Senate, these four draft laws were officially approved by the National Assembly during its plenary session on September 21, 2026. During the meeting on the morning of September 25, the Senate Standing Committee also decided to include the election of members to fill vacancies in the 9th Committee of the Senate on the agenda for an extraordinary session of the Senate in the near future.
