Cambodia Deports 66 Thai Nationals for Illegal Stay

Cambodian authorities on September 9, 2026, deported a total of 66 Thai nationals, including 28 women and one child, from the country via the Poipet International Checkpoint. The individuals were found guilty of illegal stay and other offenses and had completed their sentences. The operation commenced at 9:30 AM on the same day. It was led by Colonel Eai Chamroeun, Director of the Poipet International Checkpoint Border Police Post, in collaboration with forces from the Siem Reap Province Deportation Preparation Unit and the Investigation and Enforcement Procedures Directorate General of the Immigration Department. Local authorities and relevant institutions also participated to ensure the handover and deportation process adhered to procedures and regulations. The 66 Thai nationals were handed over and deported from Cambodia through the Poipet International Checkpoint to the Bankluk International Checkpoint in Aranyaprathet District, Sa Kaeo Province, Thailand. Colonel Eai Chamroeun stated that this deportation is part of Cambodia's law enforcement efforts to manage foreign nationals and ensure their stay within the Kingdom complies with existing laws and procedures. He added that foreigners who violate the law or stay without proper conditions may face legal measures, including deportation after completing relevant procedures. This operation underscores the crucial role of cooperation between the Border Police Post, the General Department of Immigration, local authorities, and relevant institutions in ensuring security, order, and efficient management of cross-border movements.
