National-Level Meeting: Social Security Board holds its meeting

The National-Level meeting of Social Security Board was held at the Ministry of Labour on Thursday. Union Minister U Khin Maung Soe chaired the meeting which discussed ongoing social security programmes and measures to improve healthcare and social security benefits for insured workers. The Union Minister said the Social Security Board has provided social protection services for workers for more than 70 years. The social security scheme currently covers 136 townships, 36,899 workplaces and about 1.38 million insured workers. He also said Myanmar is cooperating with Malaysia’s Social Security Organization and is negotiating with Thailand’s Social Security Office to strengthen social protection for Myanmar migrant workers. Officials reported on the implementation of social security programmes and benefits. From February to August 2026, more than 12.97 billion kyats in social security benefits was provided. For the 2025–2026 academic year, education support benefits totaling 3.58 billion kyat were provided to over 89,000 children of more than 68,000 insured workers. In addition, 10.99 billion kyat in disaster relief benefits was provided to more than 134,000 insured workers affected by the Mandalay earthquake. The meeting also discussed further reforms and cooperation among the government, employers and workers to improve social security services.
