Thai Ambassador's Plea to Suppress Border Dispute at Francophonie Forum Rejected by Cambodian Counterpart

Phnom Penh: Cambodian Ambassador to France, Mr. Ly David, revealed on his Facebook page that the Thai Ambassador had made an unusual request. The Thai Ambassador reportedly used an envoy from a third country to ask Mr. Ly to refrain from raising the Cambodia-Thailand border dispute during the Francophonie forum. Mr. Ly dismissed the request as "ridiculous" and condemned the attempt to conceal Thailand's aggressive actions. He stated, "Your country has invaded my country and is even trying to distort the facts, turning black into white and white into black." He emphasized that as a Cambodian diplomat, he has a duty to protect national interests and the truth. He asserted that there is no reason for him to remain silent and that he must inform the international community clearly about who the aggressor and who the victim is. This incident suggests that the long-standing border issue between the two countries remains a sensitive topic, even in international forums. The Cambodian side appears resolute in its stance to convey its position and experiences as a victim to the international community.
