Cambodia, Singapore Affirm Deeper Defense Cooperation Through Human Resource Development
Cambodian and Singaporean military officials met to affirm deeper defense cooperation, focusing on human resource development, information sharing, counter-terrorism efforts, and joint exercises. Singapore also pledged to play an active role in regional security as the ASEAN chair in 2027.
The Cambodian and Singaporean military authorities have agreed to deepen military cooperation through human resource development, exchange visits, security information sharing, counter-terrorism and transnational crime efforts, and joint exercises. This agreement was reached on July 15, 2026, during a meeting between General Vong Pisen, Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces, and Mr. Frederick Choo, Deputy Secretary (Political) of the Ministry of Defence of Singapore. Mr. Choo noted that Singapore will assume the ASEAN chairmanship in 2027 and will host the ASEAN Defence Ministers' Meeting and the ASEAN Chiefs of Defence Forces Meeting, as well as serve as the chair of the ASEAN Observers Team (AOT). General Vong Pisen reiterated Cambodia's stance on the Cambodia-Thailand border issue, emphasizing a commitment to peaceful resolution based on international law and existing bilateral agreements, and rejecting the use of force to alter borders. He expressed gratitude to Singapore for supporting the ceasefire and sending officers to the AOT, and requested continued support for the mission to ensure the implementation of the ceasefire and the restoration of peace along the Cambodia-Thailand border. In response, Mr. Choo highly commended Cambodia's patience and commitment to resolving issues peacefully and in accordance with international law.
