VinFast Slashes EV Prices From July, Boosting Competitiveness
Vietnamese automaker VinFast announced significant price reductions for all its electric vehicle (EV) models starting in July. Reflecting up to a 6% discount and other incentives, the new pricing will see the VF 9 drop by up to VND 170 million, the VF 5 by VND 33 million, and the VF 3 by VND 17 million. According to a sales manager at a VinFast showroom in Ho Chi Minh City, the diversity of promotional programs offered by VinFast itself had made it difficult for many customers to grasp all the information. To facilitate transactions for both buyers and sales staff, the company has decided to apply a new price after deducting these incentives. However, special preferential policies for customers in the police and military sectors will remain unchanged. The newly announced prices are essentially the final prices, meaning buyers will not receive existing incentives separately as they have already been factored into the vehicle cost. Nevertheless, benefits such as free charging until October 31, 2029, and support vouchers for existing VinFast gasoline car owners upgrading to new models will continue to be maintained. Changes in retail prices directly impact the total cost of ownership, including registration fees. However, due to the government's 100% exemption on registration fees, the total cost for VinFast EVs from July onwards is expected to remain largely unchanged compared to previous periods. With the new pricing, VinFast's various models are demonstrating clear price competitiveness in the Vietnamese market. For instance, the VF 6 (VND 646-699 million) in the B-segment CUV category, thanks to the registration fee exemption, falls into the lower end of total ownership costs within its segment. While gasoline models have lower sticker prices, their total cost of ownership, considering registration fees (10-12% depending on the locality), can be higher than the VF 6.
