Cambodia and Vietnam Vow to Strengthen Media Cooperation to Deepen Ties

Minister of Information of Cambodia, Net Pheaktra, highly praised the role of the Vietnam News Agency (VNA) in strengthening the friendship and cooperation between Cambodia and Vietnam. He commended VNA for its professional, accurate, and responsible reporting on Cambodia. This assessment was made during a meeting with Mr. Huynh Van Thao, the outgoing Chief Representative of the VNA's representative office in Cambodia, and Mr. Do Huy Binh, the newly appointed Chief Representative. The discussion also covered the continuation and strengthening of cooperation in the information sector between the two countries. Minister Net Pheaktra emphasized that the Ministry of Information of Cambodia and VNA have maintained close relations and cooperation for a long time, through information exchange, sharing professional expertise, human resource training, and mutual support in the media sector. He expressed his hope that both sides will further deepen their cooperation to keep pace with the development of digital technology and the rapidly changing media landscape. The minister also highlighted the importance of accurate, rapid, timely, and responsible information dissemination to meet public demand and contribute to combating fake news, which is a major challenge in the digital age. During the official visit of Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the Cambodian Ministry of Information and the Vietnamese Ministry responsible for information signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on media cooperation. This cooperation has begun to yield tangible results through human resource training programs and the exchange of professional expertise. In response, Mr. Do Huy Binh expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome from the minister and affirmed his commitment to continue strengthening cooperation with the Cambodian Ministry of Information. He pledged that the Vietnam News Agency will continue to widely disseminate information about Cambodia's development, achievements, traditional friendship, and comprehensive cooperation to the Vietnamese public and the international community. He noted that the VNA office in Cambodia produces and publishes an average of about 100 articles related to Cambodia per month. Furthermore, VNA in Vietnam publishes news in multiple languages, including English, French, Russian, Spanish, and Chinese. For Khmer language news, VNA utilizes information from the Cambodian News Agency (AKP) and other official Cambodian sources. Minister Net Pheaktra expressed his admiration for VNA's dedication to disseminating information about Cambodia, averaging about 100 articles per month, focusing on politics, economy, society, culture, and national development. He stated that VNA's reporting contributes to a deeper understanding between the peoples of both countries regarding each other's political, economic, social, and cultural developments. Notably, Vietnamese citizens also receive information about the situation in Cambodia, including issues related to the Cambodia-Thailand border. The Minister added that the Ministry of Information has state-owned media outlets, including Cambodian National Television (TVK), National Radio of Cambodia (RNK), the Cambodian News Agency (AKP), and a mobile application (App), which serve as official sources of information for the government. These media outlets play a crucial role in providing accurate, timely, and comprehensive information to the public, ensuring their right to information and enabling informed decision-making. He further stated that state media act as a bridge between the government and the people, conveying government policies and information to the public, and channeling public opinions and requests back to the government, thereby contributing to the promotion of good governance and sustainable national development.
