Cambodia Vows to Strengthen Civil Aviation Sector Towards Regional Hub Status

Cambodia is committed to strengthening its civil aviation sector with the goal of becoming a regional aviation hub. This was highlighted by H.E. Dr. Mao Havannall, Secretary of State of the Secretariat of State for Civil Aviation, during a meeting with a delegation from the Ninth Commission of the Senate, led by H.E. Oum Sarith, President of the Ninth Commission of the Senate, on August 4, 2026. H.E. Dr. Mao Havannall emphasized significant progress and development directions for Cambodia's civil aviation sector, aiming to make it stronger and more competitive on the international stage. He noted achievements such as strengthening air connectivity, expanding flight networks, and promoting tourism, commerce, and investment. Concurrently, Cambodia continues to enhance its role as a regulatory authority, adhering to ICAO standards and maintaining a high level of compliance in aviation safety and security. The development of new airport infrastructure and the modernization of the CNS/ATM system are also key to improving efficiency and safety. Furthermore, Cambodia has expanded international cooperation by signing air transport service agreements and promoting the development of national airlines, including support for the expansion of new-generation aircraft fleets. Notably, there is a focus on developing green aviation to reduce carbon emissions in line with international principles. The future direction involves continuing to strengthen air connectivity with potential markets and developing Cambodia into a regional aviation hub. By enhancing safety, security, service quality, and competitiveness, Cambodia anticipates attracting further investment and driving national economic growth.
