Battambang City to Commence 21 Road Construction Projects in September 2026

Battambang City in Battambang Province, western Cambodia, is in the process of preparing for the bidding of a road construction project encompassing 21 routes within the city. Fifteen international companies have expressed interest in this project, and bidding is expected to take place soon. Construction is scheduled to commence around September 2026. According to the Battambang Provincial Administration, the bid document opening for these 21 road construction projects in Battambang City will be held on August 28, 2026. Following the completion of bidding procedures, construction can begin in September of the same year. Upon completion of these 21 new roads, in addition to many already constructed routes, it is expected to significantly enhance the cityscape of Battambang, attract domestic and international tourists, and improve the convenience of daily life and travel for residents. This road construction project is part of a large-scale infrastructure development plan funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The plan also includes a standard-scale landfill in Ta Kruom village, Phnom Bun District, Battambang Province, which is one of the largest in Cambodia, as well as a wastewater treatment system on the east bank of the Sangke River, and a wastewater treatment system on the west bank of the river. These projects are expected to contribute to improving the quality of life for residents, enhancing the sanitary environment, and preventing water and environmental pollution. Battambang Provincial Governor Sok Lu stated that these three major projects will bring numerous benefits to the residents. He acknowledged some difficulties faced in the past due to road damage during project implementation, but expressed optimism about improved living standards and environmental conditions after the completion of the projects.
