Cambodia Requests Further JICA Support for Railway and Urban Transport Development

The Ministry of Public Works and Transport of Cambodia has requested the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to strengthen cooperation and provide additional support in railway infrastructure development, railway safety measures, and the formulation of urban transport master plans. This request was made by Permanent Secretary of State Koy Sudany during a meeting with a delegation led by Ms. Yoshiko Miura from JICA Headquarters. The meeting aimed to understand and identify challenges in Cambodia's transport and infrastructure development, as well as the ministry's priority tasks. The discussions focused on key areas including roads and bridges, railways, ports, urban transportation, and logistics. Secretary of State Koy Sudany expressed gratitude to JICA for its significant contributions to Cambodia's transport and infrastructure development. She specifically requested continued support in areas such as railway development and safety enhancement, the formulation of an Urban Transport and Mass-Transit Master Plan, port policy, logistics, traffic safety, improving cross-border transportation, and enhancing technical capacity through short-term training and scholarships. JICA has played a crucial role in Cambodia's infrastructure development for many years, and this consultation is expected to further deepen the bilateral cooperation between the two countries. The development of an efficient and safe transportation network is a pressing issue for Cambodia, which continues to experience economic growth, making JICA's expertise and support indispensable.
