Labor Group Backs P85 Minimum Wage Hike, Court Sets Hearing
The Nagkaisa labor coalition in the Philippines plans to intervene in a court case challenging the P85 daily minimum wage increase in Metro Manila. A hearing has been scheduled for August 6, with potential impacts on over three million workers.
THE NAGKAISA labor coalition plans to intervene in a petition before a Navotas court challenging the P85 daily minimum wage increase in Metro Manila. The Alliance of Philippine Fishing Federations filed the petition seeking declaratory relief against Wage Order No. NCR-27 and asking for a temporary suspension of its implementation. The Navotas court instead scheduled a clarificatory hearing for Aug. 6. NAGKAISA said the case could affect more than three million workers and undermine the country’s wage-setting system. It plans to seek dismissal of the petition, citing Article 126 of the Labor Code. — Mark Joseph M. Sanchez
