Two buses linked to ex-lawmaker Singson impounded over violations

MANILA, Philippines — Two buses supposedly linked to former lawmaker Chavit Singson have been impounded by the Land Transportation Office for various violations, the agency said on Tuesday. According to the LTO, its authorities apprehended the vehicles that were heading toward Liwasang Bonifacio last Sunday, July 19, after they noticed that they used improvised plates. A rally was held by the United People’s Initiative at the Liwasang Bonifacio on the same day. “The two buses were immediately impounded after the investigation found out that they were not registered with improper installation of plates, and one of the buses illegally changed its color,” LTO said in a press release. READ: LTO summons rider in viral Marikina City road rage While the LTO did not name Singson as the owner of the buses in its press release, it showed photos of the buses where his face was plastered on them. With this, LTO chair Markus Lacanilao said that the agency will look into violations of a vehicle regardless of who the owner or operator is. Using an improvised plate and operating an unregistered vehicle are violations. There is no special treatment in implementing the law, and anyone who violates it will face consequences,” Lacanilao said in the same press release. It then advised vehicle operators and owners to ensure that they follow laws and regulations, such as complying with the registration of vehicles and using proper plates.
