Cambodia to Enhance Hospital Nutrition Care via International Standards

The Ministry of Health is set to expand and enhance the quality and scope of nutrition care for patients within hospitals across Cambodia. This initiative will be implemented based on a three-year Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between the Ministry of Health and Abbott Nutrition International on July 20, 2026, covering the period from 2026 to 2029. Speaking at the MOU signing ceremony, Minister of Health Professor Dr. Chheang Ra emphasized that this collaboration is a significant step forward in improving the quality of healthcare services and the healthcare system in Cambodia, viewing a well-established nutrition care system as a core, evidence-based component of medical treatment. The Minister further stated that strengthening clinical nutrition will help reduce medical complications, shorten hospital stays, decrease readmission rates, and alleviate the healthcare cost burden for patients. The MOU establishes a three-year cooperation framework, with both parties focusing on three priority pillars: 1. Development of National Guidelines: Developing national guidelines on nutrition care that can be effectively implemented in hospitals across Cambodia. 2. Capacity Building: Facilitating training and knowledge transfer to enhance the capabilities of Cambodian healthcare officials and professionals. 3. Hospital Implementation: Implementing the Nutrition Care Process (NCP) protocols in selected national target hospitals, as well as exploring the possibility of expanding cooperation in early disease detection and prevention.
