Vietnam's Top Leader Advocates Peace, Cooperation at UNGA, Strengthens Ties with US Firms

General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and President Nguyen Phu Trong emphasized that Vietnam chooses peace, cooperation, and development during his address at the high-level general debate of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) at the UN headquarters in New York on September 22 (local time). He stated that Vietnam, as an active member, a trustworthy partner, and a responsible nation, will persistently work with other countries to strengthen the UN, uphold international law, and translate commitments into tangible benefits for the people, thereby building a peaceful, equitable, inclusive, and better world for all. He also held meetings with Timor-Leste President José Ramos-Horta, Swiss President Guy Parmelin, and Finnish President Alexander Stubb in New York on September 22 afternoon (local time). On the domestic policy front, the draft Law on Data Security adopts a lifecycle approach and proposes managing data security risks related to the digital economy, digital infrastructure, investment, technology transfer, artificial intelligence (AI), emerging technologies, supply chains and cross-border data flows. During meetings with agencies in charge of cultural enterprises and social media platform management under the French Ministry of Culture, the delegation from the National Assembly (NA)’s Committee on Cultural and Social Affairs learned about France's policies for developing cultural and creative industries, digital transformation and the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in culture, as well as measures to protect children online. In terms of international cooperation, Vietnam proposed that each country establish a specialised coordination task force to verify, investigate and handle complex transnational scam rings and cases, ensuring the rapid and effective exchange of information and coordination of investigations. The project focuses on building the capacity of Vietnamese and regional scholars and experts in maritime connectivity, maritime governance and maritime analysis, while promoting joint research to propose solutions for strengthening substantive maritime cooperation among Southeast Asian countries.
