Ninh Thuan Province Focuses on Preserving Lang Giang Temple's Cultural Heritage Value

The Lang Giang Temple in Ninh Thuan Province, Vietnam, stands as a significant cultural and spiritual hub for both the local community and visitors from afar, owing to its rich historical, cultural, and architectural artistic values. The temple was recognized as a National Historical and Cultural Heritage site in 1996, and in 2017, its traditional festival was inscribed on the National Intangible Cultural Heritage list. The temple venerates three generals who served during the 18th Hung King period and played a crucial role in repelling the Shu invaders, thereby safeguarding the nation's borders. It also honors Princess Tien Dung and Chu Dong Tu, figures considered among the 'Four Immortals' in Vietnamese folk beliefs. Architecturally, the temple follows the 'noi cong ngoai quoc' style prevalent during the Nguyen Dynasty, comprising three main structures and fourteen rooms. Its intricate carvings feature diverse motifs such as the Four Sacred Beasts (Tu linh), dragons worshipping the moon, and grapevines, exuding an ancient and solemn beauty. Despite the vicissitudes of history, its unique architectural style and sacred charm remain intact. In recent years, Ninh Thuan Province has prioritized the preservation and promotion of the Lang Giang Temple's values. Local authorities, residents, and the temple management board have united in their efforts to protect and restore the site. Social mobilization has also been actively pursued, solidifying the Lang Giang Temple's position as a prominent spiritual and cultural destination in Ninh Thuan Province, recognized by many. Notably, the Lang Giang Temple festival, scheduled for 2026, is planned to include a variety of activities harmonizing solemn rituals with vibrant festivities. The festival aims to honor ancestors, preserve intangible cultural heritage, and showcase the region's traditional beauty through cultural events, arts, sports, and traditional games, fostering a spirit of unity. This initiative aligns with the effective implementation of Resolution No. 80-NQ/TW dated January 7, 2026, by the Politburo on developing Vietnamese culture. The Lang Giang Temple festival is a representative event embodying the cultural identity of the people in the Red River Delta region, serving as a platform to preserve and promote the practice of Mother Goddess worship (tho Mau) in their cultural lives. Beyond paying tribute to ancestors and educating about patriotism and the virtue of 'remembering the source,' the festival also contributes to promoting the image of Duy Tan as a homeland rich in culture, friendliness, and compassion.
