Kim Son Market Fire Destroys 400 sqm Area

A large fire broke out at Kim Son Market in Mao Khe ward, Quang Ninh province, northern Vietnam, around 8 AM on September 18. The fire is believed to have originated in areas selling clothing, footwear, rubber, and plastic products, spreading rapidly. Thick black smoke billowed dozens of meters high, visible from kilometers away. At the time of the fire, the market was bustling with shoppers and vendors. Upon hearing the news, people panicked and began evacuating vehicles and goods from the danger zone. Upon receiving the report at 8:09 AM, the Quang Ninh City Firefighting and Rescue Police mobilized at least five fire trucks and over a dozen firefighters. They collaborated with ward police and the electricity company to extinguish the fire and prevent its spread. Firefighting and rescue police from Hai Phong City were also deployed to provide support. The fire was brought under control around 9 AM, but the affected area spanned approximately 400 square meters. Authorities have cordoned off the scene and are currently assessing damages and investigating the cause of the fire. Kim Son Market was invested in and built by Thanh Tam 668 Company Limited on a 1.2-hectare site, opening in November 2013. It replaced a temporary market that had issues with traffic safety and environmental sanitation. Separately, around 8 AM on the same day, a fire occurred at a car repair garage on Xo Viet Nghe Tinh Street in Vinh Phu ward, Nghe An province. A 5-seater car undergoing repairs caught fire, and within minutes, the vehicle was engulfed in flames, with thick black smoke rising high. Employees and locals attempted to extinguish the fire with mini extinguishers but were unsuccessful. Firefighters from Nghe An Provincial Police arrived and controlled the blaze around 8:30 AM, though the car was reduced to a charred frame.
