LRT-2 Extends 'Piso Fare Cashback' Promo for Cashless Payments
The Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced the extension of the 'Piso Fare Cashback' promo for cashless payments on the Light Rail Transit 2 (LRT-2) line. The promotion, originally set to end July 31, 2026, will now run until August 31, 2026, aiming to boost ridership and convenience.
MANILA, Philippines — The “Piso Fare Cashback” promo for cashless payments of a bank card for Light Rail Transit 2 (LRT-2) passengers will be extended until August 31, 2026, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said on Friday. According to Transport Secretary Giovanni Lopez, the promo was supposed to end on July 31, 2026. The agency said the promo offers a cashback for one-station fare when using a bank card for cashless payments. “We are extending this promo to further encourage the use of public transportation and enhance mobility in the metro,” Lopez said. The LRT-2 is one of the busiest rail lines in Metro Manila, serving thousands of commuters daily. The promo is part of the DOTr’s efforts to modernize the country’s public transportation system and promote cashless transactions. Passengers have welcomed the extension, saying it will help them save money on their daily commute. “It’s a big help for us commuters, especially now that prices are increasing,” said Mary Ann Reyes, a regular LRT-2 passenger. “We are happy that the DOTr is thinking of ways to make commuting more affordable,” she added. The DOTr has been implementing various programs to improve the public transportation system in the country, including the expansion of rail lines and the modernization of buses and trains. The agency also encourages the use of cashless payments to reduce the spread of the virus and to promote a more efficient transaction system.
