Cambodia Enhances Child Protection in Tourism Sector with Awareness Meeting in Kep
Cambodia's Ministry of Tourism held an awareness meeting on "Child Safety in Tourism" in Kep province. The initiative aims to promote child protection and prevent exploitation, fostering a safe and responsible tourism environment, aligning with the government's "Pentagonal Strategy" prioritizing "people."
The Ministry of Tourism held an awareness meeting on "Child Safety in Tourism" at the Kep Provincial Department of Tourism on September 17, 2026. Presided over by Madam Long Phirum, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Tourism, the meeting was attended by technical officials and stakeholders. The objective was to enhance understanding of child safety and protect children from sexual abuse and exploitation within the tourism sector, while also disseminating ethical codes and child protection mechanisms to jointly create a safe and responsible tourism environment. During the event, Madam Long Phirum highlighted that child safety in tourism, though a part of tourism work, is crucial for protecting children's rights and well-being. It also contributes to maintaining the reputation and attractiveness of tourist destinations, making them safe and warm for visitors. She further stated that children are considered vital human resources for national development. In the first phase of the "Pentagonal Strategy," the Royal Government designated "People" as a top priority. Therefore, paying attention to the welfare, safety, and development of children is a fundamental basis for building human capital for Cambodia's future. She added that the government views children as successors to the nation, in line with the slogans "Children are the bamboo shoots that succeed the bamboo" and "Children are the pillars of the nation." Additionally, Madam Long Phirum mentioned that His Excellency Thong Khon, Minister of Tourism, consistently encourages and supports various activities to eliminate negative aspects and enhance the attractiveness of the tourism sector, in accordance with the slogans "Tourism for All, All for Tourism" and "Every Citizen is a Promoter of Cambodian Tourism." It is worth recalling that for child protection and the promotion of a safe tourism environment, the Ministry of Tourism has implemented two essential measures: educational measures and administrative measures. These are aimed at preventing and curbing negative issues in the tourism sector, thereby ensuring that Cambodia's tourism environment is safe, responsible, and attractive. Source: AKP Khmer
