A total of 69 road accidents occurred across Cambodia from September 1st to 10th, 2026, resulting in 50 deaths and 81 serious and minor injuries. This data, released by the Ministry of Interior, indicates a decrease of two deaths and six injuries compared to the same period in August. The report identified Phnom Penh, Kandal, Kampong Speu, Kep, Kampot, Sihanoukville, Koh Kong, Battambang, Banteay Meanchey, Siem Reap, Preah Vihear, Stung Treng, Ratanakiri, Kratié, Tboung Khmum, Kampong Cham, Svay Rieng, and Prey Veng provinces as areas where traffic accidents frequently occur. It is noteworthy that since September 1st, authorities have begun enforcing and tightening traffic laws in five key provinces and municipalities that are prone to frequent accidents: Phnom Penh, Sihanoukville, Kandal, Kampong Speu, and Svay Rieng. In other provinces and municipalities, authorities continue to implement educational and advisory measures. The strict enforcement of traffic laws primarily targets major offenses that are the main sources of accidents, including speeding, driving under the influence of alcohol, failure to respect right-of-way and traffic signals, and technically non-compliant overloaded transport.
