PM Oversees Rehearsal of Royal Barge Procession for Queen's 48th Birthday

Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin has overseen the rehearsal of the Royal Barge Procession, conducted in celebration of Her Majesty Queen Suthida Bajrasudhabimalalakshana's 48th birthday on June 3rd, and the Kathin ceremony. During his visit to Vasukri Pier in Dusit District and Wat Arun Ratchawararam in Bangkok Yai District, the Prime Minister received a briefing from the Royal Thai Navy regarding the preparations for the procession. This included the readiness of approximately 2,000 oarsmen and an inspection of two royal barges: the Suphannahong Royal Barge, the royal vessel, and the Narai Song Suban, used for carrying the Kathin robes. Following this, the Prime Minister boarded a Royal Thai Navy vessel to follow the procession route, observing the water currents before docking at Wat Arun Ratchawararam. At the temple, he paid respects at the monument of King Rama II and offered prayers to Buddha images. He was also presented with a Garuda clutching a Naga figurine by the Vice Abbot of Wat Arun, symbolizing power over obstacles, protection from enemies, and prosperity. In a press conference after the rehearsal, the Prime Minister stated that all aspects of the Royal Barge Procession for the ceremony on November 6th, including the barges, route, and procedures, are complete and perfect. He mentioned that further rehearsals would continue to ensure beauty and safety, with multiple sessions planned until the actual event. He emphasized that the procession not only showcases Thai culture but also instills pride in the nation's core institutions. Regarding the safety of tourists along the viewing points, the Prime Minister assured that security measures are strictly enforced. Tourists can view the procession from various locations along the riverbanks, including temples and schools, and he has instructed the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Culture to facilitate their experience. He also noted that riverside restaurants and cafes would offer services for optimal viewing. When asked about potential price gouging by riverside establishments, the Prime Minister expressed confidence, saying, "If I were a shop owner, I would want people to have the opportunity to watch. I believe there will be no exploitation or opportunism."
