Cambodia, Japan Deepen Educational Cooperation Amid Strategic Partnership
Cambodian Minister of Education, Youth and Sport Hang Chuon Naron and Japanese Ambassador Ueno Atsushi, who is concluding his mission, emphasized the importance of continued cooperation in education. They affirmed that numerous achievements have resulted from their collaboration and pledged to further strengthen and expand ties under their robust strategic partnership.
Cambodian Minister of Education, Youth and Sport, Dr. Hang Chuon Naron, and Japanese Ambassador Ueno Atsushi, who is concluding his diplomatic mission, have highlighted the importance of continuing to strengthen and expand cooperation in the education sector. They underscored the numerous achievements resulting from the excellent collaboration between Cambodia and Japan, facilitated through high-level exchanges, study visits, and exchanges of students, education officials, teachers, and pupils, as well as teacher training, scholarships to study in Japan, and various educational development projects in Cambodia under Japanese government assistance. During a farewell meeting on July 10, 2026, the Minister of Education, Youth and Sport congratulated Ambassador Ueno on the successful completion of his diplomatic mission in the Kingdom of Cambodia. He praised the Ambassador's valuable contributions to strengthening and expanding relations and cooperation between the two countries, noting Japan's significant role in reforming Cambodia's education system. Key achievements highlighted include projects for the establishment and upgrading of pedagogical institutes focusing on teacher training, initiatives to promote science and mathematics education, the Equity Fund, the construction of next-generation schools, and human resource development cooperation through the JDS scholarship program. Furthermore, Dr. Hang Chuon Naron spoke about the progress of cooperation with Japanese foundations in promoting the learning and teaching of the Japanese language in Cambodia, including teacher training and methods for creating an effective learning environment for Cambodian students. In response, Ambassador Ueno expressed his gratitude to the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport for their diligent coordination and cooperation on all education-related projects with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Cambodia Office and the Japanese Embassy in Cambodia. He also expressed pride in the continuous progress of bilateral relations between the two countries across all sectors.
