Classes, Gov’t Work Halted in Luzon Due to Tropical Storm Kujira

MANILA, Philippines — Classes and government work were suspended in Metro Manila and 22 other areas in Luzon on Thursday, August 6, due to heavy rains brought by Tropical Storm Kujira (international name) and the southwest monsoon. Rodriguez, stated that the suspension was to ensure the safety of the public in affected areas. PAGASA (Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration) had earlier hoisted Signal No. 2 over eight areas in Northern Luzon as Tropical Storm Kujira continued its westward movement. The storm was seen moving towards the West Philippine Sea, carrying heavy to intense rains within its 300-kilometer diameter. Residents in low-lying areas and those living near riverbanks were advised to take precautionary measures against possible flash floods and landslides. The suspension of classes and government work is a common measure in the Philippines during typhoons and heavy rains to prevent casualties and ensure public safety.
