DepEd funds for Youth Leadership Summit not used by military, witnesses say

No confidential funds from the Department of Education (DepEd) were released to military units for Youth Leadership Summit (YLS) activities in 2023, Rep. Zia Alonto Adiong, House prosecution spokesperson, stated in a press conference on Wednesday. This assertion comes as YLS activities were cited in DepEd’s liquidation report. According to Alonto Adiong, three witnesses testified that funds related to YLS activities were not directly disbursed by DepEd to military units. These testimonies aim to counter allegations regarding the utilization of YLS funds. The issue raises discussions on the transparency and accountability of public funds, with particular public interest in the confidential expenditures of major government agencies like the DepEd.
