Laos Sends Two Officers to ASEAN Observer Team (AOT) Led by Philippines
Laos has dispatched two military officers to join the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT) led by the Philippines. This initiative aims to monitor the ceasefire and verify the situation in the Cambodia-Thailand border area, fostering regional transparency and trust.
According to a press release from the Ministry of National Defence of the Kingdom of Cambodia, on July 23, 2026, at 1:00 PM, the International Relations Department of the Ministry of National Defence and the Cambodian Coordination Liaison Group (CLG) warmly welcomed the Lao People's Democratic Republic's dispatch of two officers, Colonel KHAMPHET FONGLAMAY and Colonel SINGSAVAN VONGSOUVANH, to join the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT) stationed in the Kingdom of Cambodia. The AOT is led by the Philippines, the current ASEAN rotating chair, and is tasked with observing and verifying the situation along the Cambodia-Thailand border following the entry into force of the ceasefire. The source indicated that Cambodia consistently provides full support and strengthens the role of the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT) in ensuring the implementation of the ceasefire between Cambodia and Thailand, aiming to enhance transparency, mutual trust, and protect citizens' lives. Concurrently, Cambodia always welcomes friendly countries to send observers or participate in peace-related efforts. The Royal Government and the Ministry of National Defence of Cambodia remain steadfastly committed, loyally, and with high responsibility to fully and meticulously respect and implement the Joint Communiqué of the 3rd Special Meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) dated December 27, 2025, the Joint Statement on the Peace Agreement between Cambodia and Thailand dated October 26, 2025, and other related agreements, in order to move towards prompt improvement and the return to normalcy, peace, and long-term stability.
