Takeo Province Launches Dengue Fever Prevention Education Campaign for Residents

In Takeo Province, southern Cambodia, an educational campaign has been launched in preparation for the dengue fever season. On July 9, 2026, Governor Vey Samnang led an initiative in Don Keo City to disseminate preventive measures, including the application of "Albate" to kill mosquito larvae and the spraying of insecticides to eliminate Aedes mosquitoes, the vectors of dengue fever. The campaign took place on the grounds of Wat Sreng Pagoda in the city, with significant participation from the provincial deputy governor, heads of various departments, military personnel, teachers, students, and a large number of residents. Governor Vey Samnang emphasized that this activity, timed with the onset of the rainy season, is a highly effective and timely measure to prevent the spread of dengue fever, primarily aiming to protect the health and well-being of the citizens. He further urged residents to implement simple yet essential preventive measures at home. These include tightly covering water containers such as tanks and jars, regularly cleaning or changing water at least once a week, or introducing "Albate" and releasing fish like the seven-colored fish to feed on mosquito larvae. Residents were also advised to collect and destroy any objects that can collect rainwater around their homes, such as old tires, bottles, and coconut shells, to prevent them from becoming breeding grounds for mosquitoes. Additionally, wearing long-sleeved shirts and long pants, and sleeping under mosquito nets both day and night, were recommended. The governor reminded all guardians to promptly take their children to the nearest health post, health center, or hospital if they observe any abnormal symptoms such as fever, without resorting to self-medication.
