Transnational corruption cases linked to corruption cannot be combatted by one country alone, said U Soe Thein, Chairman of the Anti-Corruption Commission. The Chairman of the Anti-Corruption Commission made this statement at an awareness and briefing session on anti-corruption, jointly organized by the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement and the Anti-Corruption Commission, held at the ministry's assembly hall on the morning of September 22. At the event, U Soe Thein, Chairman of the Anti-Corruption Commission, stated that efforts are being made in accordance with international standards to cooperate in preventing and combating corruption, and that transnational corruption cases linked to corruption cannot be combatted by one country alone. He further stated that Myanmar is cooperating with countries worldwide in accordance with the United Nations Convention Against Corruption, which is the sole common agreement on anti-corruption. He emphasized that corruption is a major obstacle to national development, and therefore, it is necessary for everyone, from individuals to all stakeholders in various sectors, to participate in anti-corruption efforts. In his opening remarks, Union Minister Dr. Soe Win said that by holding such awareness programs, government departments, organizations, and responsible officials will be able to understand matters that could lead to corruption, the negative consequences of corruption, and the provisions and penalties under the Anti-Corruption Law, and thus avoid situations that could lead to corruption. He added that corruption delays national development and service delivery, and also damages reputation, so individuals should avoid corruption. He also mentioned that his ministry has established a Corruption Prevention Unit (CPU) and is carrying out corruption prevention activities. Following this, directors from the Anti-Corruption Commission Office provided explanations and discussions regarding corruption prevention and the Anti-Corruption Law. Attendees asked questions, and responsible officials provided answers. Later, a meeting was held with members of the Corruption Prevention Unit of the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement, led by commission member U Tin Aung Win. Current activities and future plans of the ministry's corruption prevention units were discussed. The event was attended by Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr. Soe Win, Chairman of the Anti-Corruption Commission U Soe Thein, Deputy Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr. Than Soe, Anti-Corruption Commission member U Tin Aung Win, responsible officials from the Anti-Corruption Commission Office, responsible officials from the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement, and members of the ministry's Corruption Prevention Unit (CPU).
