Stolen Car Intercepted Within 15 Minutes in Ho Chi Minh City

Ho Chi Minh City traffic police intercepted a stolen car within 15 minutes of receiving a report that it was heading into the city from Dong Nai province. The driver, a 27-year-old man, could not produce vehicle registration or insurance documents. He stated he was hired to drive the car from Dong Nai to Ho Chi Minh City. On the afternoon of September 9, the Rach Chiec Traffic Police Team received a report from the Command Department about a white 4-seater car, reported stolen in Dong Nai province, heading into Ho Chi Minh City. After about 15 minutes of searching, the task force spotted the vehicle matching the description heading towards the city center. Traffic police pursued the car and ordered it to stop at the intersection of 3 Thang 2 and Le Dai Hanh streets in Phu Tho ward. During the inspection, the 27-year-old driver could not present the vehicle's registration certificate, inspection certificate, or insurance certificate. He confessed that he was hired by an acquaintance to pick up the car in Dong Nai and drive it to Ho Chi Minh City. The Rach Chiec Traffic Police Team, under the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Traffic Police, is coordinating with Phu Tho Ward Police and Dong Nai Provincial Police to investigate the driver. This incident highlights the ongoing challenges in vehicle theft and transportation within Vietnam. While the police demonstrated a swift response, the sophistication of criminal networks and their ability to move stolen vehicles across regions remain concerns, especially with the increasing number of vehicles on the road due to economic growth.
