Cambodia Hosts 13th ASEAN Military Medicine Commanders Conference, Focusing on Chemical Warfare Threats

The Directorate of Military Health of the Ministry of National Defense of the Kingdom of Cambodia hosted the 13th ASEAN Military Medicine Commanders Conference in Siem Reap. This significant gathering brought together military medicine commanders from across ASEAN to exchange experiences and knowledge. This marks the second time the Kingdom of Cambodia has hosted this conference. During the opening ceremony at the Empress Angkor Resort & Spa on the morning of June 28, 2026, H.E. Lieutenant General Dr. Ly Kosal, Secretary of State of the Ministry of National Defense, warmly welcomed the ASEAN military delegations. He stated that the conference is a tangible reflection of the strong solidarity, friendship, and commitment to cooperation aimed at advancing the military medicine sector within the ASEAN region. The 13th ASEAN Military Medicine Commanders Conference specifically focused on the theme of ensuring responses to threats from chemical substances or chemical weapons. These pose public health challenges and can severely impact the health of humans, animals, and the environment, representing inhumane acts that require all to take measures to prevent and intervene through all national and international means. It is worth recalling that the ASEAN Military Medicine Commanders Conference was established and took shape through the initiative of Vietnam and other parties in the ASEAN region. The first meeting was held in Hanoi, Vietnam, in 2011. The conference was created with the objective of sharing knowledge and bringing forth new global challenges for study, discussion, and the search for common solutions. It also serves as an opportunity for ASEAN military medicine commanders to meet as leaders, encouraging young military medical officers to continue to pay attention and contribute further new ideas.
