Thai Defense Minister Emphasizes National Security Through 'Human Development' with AI

Defence Minister Gen. Adul Boonmascharoen, also known as 'Big Dool,' presided over the opening of the HOPE SPACE AI Summit 2026 at SCBX NEXT TECH, 4th Floor, Siam Paragon, delivering a special lecture on the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for national development. The event was attended by numerous representatives from government, the private sector, academia, technology developers, as well as veterans and interested citizens. Gen. Adul stated that in the current era of rapid global change driven by AI advancements, which are impacting all dimensions of life including education, work, healthcare, economy, and public administration, national security in the 21st century no longer solely means the use of weapons or combat. Instead, it signifies the development of people to possess knowledge, skills, and the ability to utilize technology creatively and ethically. He further explained that AI serves as a tool to connect people across different age groups, enabling Baby Boomers to learn and communicate more effectively with their Gen Z and Gen Alpha grandchildren. Citing a personal experience, he shared that before attending the event, he had injured his foot when his iPad fell on it. He used AI to inquire about basic first aid procedures, illustrating how AI can be a beneficial assistant in daily life if used correctly. On this occasion, the Defence Minister proposed expanding the use of AI to over 200 Border Patrol Police schools nationwide. This initiative aims to provide children and youth in remote areas with equal access to knowledge and technology, thereby reducing educational disparities and fostering high-quality human resources. He described this as the most crucial security investment for the nation. Furthermore, Gen. Adul expressed his appreciation for the participation of veterans in the event, emphasizing that AI should be a technology accessible to everyone, including children, youth, working adults, the elderly, and veterans. This would help increase opportunities for learning, healthcare, employment, and daily life, ultimately elevating the quality of life for all segments of the population. In conclusion, the Defence Minister reiterated that AI development must proceed in parallel with ethical principles, responsibility, and technological literacy. This ensures AI becomes a force for creating opportunities, reducing inequality, and driving the country forward stably and sustainably. He stated, "If we use AI responsibly, technology will not be a dividing force among people, but rather a tool that connects all ages and generations, creating opportunities for every Thai to develop their potential.
