Prabowo and AHY Light 'Torch of Struggle' Together at 25th Democrat Party Anniversary

President Prabowo Subianto and Democratic Party Chairman Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) symbolically lit a 'torch of struggle' together during the 25th anniversary celebration of the Democratic Party in Jakarta on Wednesday night. The moment occurred after President Prabowo delivered his speech at the event, with both leaders jointly holding a torch-like ornament and igniting it from the same flame. The Democratic Party is a coalition partner in the current government, with several of its cadres, including AHY who serves as the Coordinating Minister for Investment and Downstream Industries, holding ministerial positions in the 'Merah Putih' Cabinet. In his speech at the same event, AHY stated that the Democratic Party's objective is to ensure the success of President Prabowo Subianto's administration. He emphasized that the government's success would be a success for all Indonesian people, not just the government itself. "The position of the Democratic Party is clear; we want President Prabowo Subianto's administration to succeed. There is nothing else but the success and victory of this administration," AHY said. AHY has recently been linked as a potential contender in the 2029 presidential election. His political speech at the Democratic Party's 25th anniversary on Saturday, September 5th, garnered attention and was seen as 'warming up' for the 2029 presidential race. During his address, AHY touched upon various election-related issues, urging all party cadres in executive, legislative, and regional leadership roles to remain sensitive and honest to the realities faced by the people on the ground. He also highlighted the importance of professionalism and neutrality for all state apparatus and personnel, particularly during elections, stating, "Power does not belong to anyone forever; power is a trust from the people with a time limit." Deputy Chairman of the Golkar Party, Ahmad Doli Kurnia, opined that AHY's speech signaled his intention to be one of the contestants in the 2029 presidential election. "However, judging from the nuances of the delivery, gestures, and his standing position, AHY appears to be sending a strong signal that he is ready to be one of the contenders in the upcoming presidential election," Doli stated when contacted on Monday, September 7th. Doli further speculated that two major political forces are already positioning themselves in preparation for the upcoming presidential election.
