Cambodia Urges Citizens to Plant and Nurture Trees for Greener Environment and Climate Change Mitigation

In northwestern Cambodia's Banteay Meanchey province, a tree-planting event was held with the aim of environmental protection and climate change mitigation. The event took place on August 6, 2026, at the Chhrop Thmey Forest Community, led by Ms. Chey Nary Ou Ratrey, Honorary Vice President of the provincial Women's Association for Peace and Development. Ms. Chey Nary Ou Ratrey strongly emphasized that planting trees is just the first step, and the most crucial duty is to meticulously care for them to ensure their survival, thereby establishing a robust environmental foundation for the nation. She called upon all citizens and stakeholders to actively participate in tree-planting activities in all locations, without discrimination, whether along roadsides, at schools, in pagodas, within communities, or even on private land. "Planting trees is one thing, but what is more important is to carefully nurture them so they grow well. We must not plant and then abandon them, as saplings need water, protection, and watering to grow into true shade," Ms. Chey Nary Ou Ratrey added. She reiterated that creating a green environment in the locality not only helps absorb toxic gases but also actively contributes to effectively curbing global climate change, providing clean air for public health, and enhancing the aesthetic appeal of Banteay Meanchey province, making it more attractive, vibrant, and a desirable place to live for everyone. The event was attended by numerous participants, including Ms. Nuon Sophann, a Member of Parliament for Banteay Meanchey province, Ms. Mum Puththeara, Deputy Governor of the province, the Women's Association team, and local authorities.
