Police in Bangkok are actively investigating a case where a freelance courier, who makes regular trips between Thailand and Japan, discovered over two kilograms of crystal methamphetamine concealed within jars of tamarind paste. The courier, identified as 43-year-old Patcharanan Boromkasemsuk, noticed the jars felt unusually heavy and upon inspection, found the illicit substance. She promptly reported the discovery to the authorities, thereby preventing a significant international drug smuggling attempt. Boromkasemsuk was hired by a Facebook user named “Chayamin Pai” to transport items from Thailand to Japan. On July 7, while preparing her luggage, she examined the contents of a cardboard box delivered to her condo, which included everyday items and six jars of tamarind paste. Her suspicion was aroused by the unexpected weight of the jars. Upon further investigation, she found a hard, white object wrapped in clear plastic inside each jar. Recognizing the danger, she left the suspicious package at her condo and traveled to Japan without it. Upon her return to Thailand on July 11, she immediately went to the Bang Yi Khan Police Station to report the incident. Police officers visited her condo and confirmed the presence of crystal meth hidden in all six jars of tamarind paste. The evidence has been sent to the forensics department for fingerprint analysis, and investigators are working diligently to identify the sender of the package. Authorities intend to prosecute the suspect for illegal drug distribution and international trafficking. The police have expressed their gratitude for the courier's honesty and her crucial role in thwarting the crime.
