Ho Chi Minh City: 14 more sets of martyrs' remains found at Le Thi Rieng Park, tracing war memories

In Ho Chi Minh City, the ongoing collection of martyrs' remains at Le Thi Rieng Park has yielded further discoveries. On August 3rd, the remains collection unit under the City Command found an additional 14 sets of martyrs' remains, with accompanying personal effects discovered with four of them. This brings the total number of remains found at the park to 168. This extensive collection is part of the "500-Day Operation" conducted after the end of the Vietnam War, which has so far identified 1,563 sets of remains and nine mass graves. In Le Thi Rieng Park alone, Ho Chi Minh City has already collected 125 sets of remains. The current discoveries highlight the significant efforts being made to preserve the memories of the war for future generations. Under its one-party system, Vietnam regards the memories of war as a crucial element for national unity. The commemoration of fallen soldiers and the collection of their remains from the Vietnam War (the anti-American war) are particularly encouraged as a national spirit of "Gratitude" (Tri An), with the entire society participating.
