Cambodia: Community Hall Construction for Veterans Supported by Donations
A community hall is being constructed for veterans and their families in Cambodia's Kampong Cham province. While donations from residents and philanthropists are funding the construction, delays in infrastructure development and the need for additional funds have been noted. Government officials have expressed continued support for veterans.
In Kampong Cham province, Cambodia, the construction of a community hall for veterans and their families is underway. On July 31, 2026, Major General Som Sun, Commander of the Kampong Cham Military Region, visited veterans and their families and presented letters of appreciation to philanthropists who contributed to the hall's construction. The hall is being built within the Techo Dibotey Talok Pring Development Center for the joint use of veterans. Lieutenant Colonel Tit Chan, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Kampong Cham Military Region and coordinator for the hall's construction, reported on the living conditions of 269 families and 241 households of veterans residing at the center. He highlighted that 100 households, which moved in during 2025 and recently in 2026, are facing difficulties due to the lack of access roads and electricity infrastructure. The construction of the community hall has cost a total of $10,000 and 14,405,000 Riel. This includes a $10,000 donation from Mr. Noun Pharat (President of the Cambodian Veterans and Retired Soldiers Association, Kampong Cham Branch) and his wife, along with contributions from other philanthropists. Major General Som Sun conveyed messages of concern and support for veterans from Prime Minister Hun Sen, Prime Minister Hun Manet, and Governor Noun Pharat. However, additional funds are still required for the hall's completion, including concrete flooring, surrounding foundation work, sanitary facilities (toilets), and wall painting for aesthetic improvement. Regarding the delays in road development for veterans' residences, the committee of the Cambodian Veterans and Retired Soldiers Association, Kampong Cham Branch, has submitted a request to the Ministry of Rural Development through Mr. Kun Kim (Vice Chairman and Secretary-General of the Association).
