BIR Makati Launches Mentoring Program for Micro and Small Taxpayers

The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has rolled out a new mentoring program tailored for micro and small taxpayers, shifting the agency's focus from strict enforcement to hands-on assistance and voluntary compliance. Launched on Sept. 15 by BIR Revenue Region No. 8A–Makati City, the Micro and Small Taxpayers Assistance and Mentoring Program (MS-TAMP) aims to support small businesses and individual taxpayers in improving their tax compliance and encouraging voluntary reporting. This initiative marks a strategic shift in the BIR's approach, moving away from a predominantly enforcement-driven model towards one that emphasizes active support and guidance for taxpayers. MS-TAMP is designed to address the specific tax challenges faced by small businesses, facilitating smoother tax filing and payment processes through personalized mentoring and information dissemination. The program is part of the BIR's broader strategy to foster the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), which form the backbone of the Philippine economy, and to broaden the tax base.
