BFP Bet Poised to Win Maguindanao del Norte 1st District BARMM Seat

Prince Khalid Tomawis of the Bangsamoro Federalist Party (BFP) is currently leading the Bangsamoro parliamentary electoral race in the 1st District of Maguindanao del Norte. As of September 14, 10:59 pm, with 94.51% of precincts reporting, Tomawis has secured 38,937 votes, making his victory highly probable. Maguindanao del Norte is considered a stronghold of the BFP, which is led by Abdulraof “Sammy Gambar” Macacua, former acting governor of the province and interim Chief Minister of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM). Tomawis is the son of the late former Barira mayor Alexander Tomawis and former Buldon mayor Fatima Ruth Tomawis. Tomawis's closest competitor is Abdulkudos Pendatu Balitok, former base commander of the Bangsamoro Islamic Armed Forces of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF). Balitok has garnered 16,816 votes so far, an insufficient number to overcome Tomawis's substantial lead. Balitok ran under the United Bangsamoro Justice Party, the political party of the MILF. This electoral outcome highlights the political dynamics within the Bangsamoro region, particularly the influence of the MILF and its affiliated parties. The BFP's anticipated victory could signify an expansion of its regional influence. Political maneuvering continues in the predominantly Muslim areas of southern Philippines concerning the expansion of autonomy and regional development, making this election result noteworthy within that context.
