Cambodian Military Awards Commendation to ASEAN Observer Mission Members from Vietnam

Phnom Penh, July 15, 2026 -- General Vong Pisen, Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces, presented commendation certificates to two Vietnamese members of the ASEAN Observer Mission, Colonel Ngo Son Chuong and reserve Colonel Bùi Son Yuong, on the afternoon of July 14, 2026, as they concluded their mission terms. During the occasion, General Vong Pisen expressed his profound gratitude to the Party, State, and People's Army of Vietnam for their support in the implementation of the Cambodia-Thailand ceasefire agreement. He also noted Vietnam's dispatch of military officers to Cambodia as members of the ASEAN Observer Mission, in the spirit of solidarity and shared responsibility within the ASEAN family. General Vong highlighted the long-standing friendship between Cambodia and Vietnam, neighboring countries that have historically cooperated and assisted each other in times of both war and peace. He stated that in the context of Cambodia facing conflict with Thailand, Vietnam's participation as an ASEAN observer reflects a shared commitment to seeking peace, stability, and maintaining ASEAN centrality. Furthermore, the Commander-in-Chief highly valued the support shown by ASEAN member countries, which demonstrated solidarity, unity, and a collective commitment to maintaining regional peace and stability, especially at a time when the global situation is fraught with tension and complexity. In addition, General Vong commended the sacrifices, sense of responsibility, and professionalism of the ASEAN Observer Mission members who were away from their families and home countries to contribute to rebuilding peace, stability, and normalcy along the Cambodia-Thailand border and within the ASEAN region.
